MASS PROTEST IN RUFUS GIWA POLYTECHNIC OVER ASUP STRIKE

tudents of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, and Ondo State shut down the campus yesterday as they protested against lecturers joining the ongoing ASUP strike.
The angry protesters barricaded the school main entrance preventing vehicles from going in and out of the school premises for hours. Students were seen carrying placards, making their displeasure known.
The protest was fueled by the fact that lecturers of the school just resumed work after embarking on a local strike which lasted weeks. Now, they are set to begin a nationwide strike which might extent to months.
According to the student union president of the institution, lecturers were unfair to students by joining ASUP strike, he urged the striking lecturers to consider the plight of students who already have extra year as a result of lingering crisis in the education sector to return to work.
