LAUTECH students protest against fee increment

Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, trooped out to the streets of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Tuesday to protest an increment in the tuition fee by management of the university.

As early as 6:30 a.m.,students locked the institution’s campus gates in Osogbo and Ogbomoso to protest the increment.

The closure temporarily affect the free movement of vehicles and also stopped day-to-day activities in the school.

The protesting students were armed with placards of various inscription, rejecting the hike in School fee. While policemen monitored the situation to prevent it from escalating to vandalization of properties.

The new fee regime of between N200,000 and N250,000 per student was unacceptable, describing it as “a manifestation of the insensitivity of the governments of the two states.” Whilst some students believe that the increment was an attempt to privatize the tertiary institution.

LAUTECH is jointly owned by the governments of Oyo and Osun states.
