#UNIBADAN: We say no to student victimization

The Stakeholders meeting held recently  discussed pertinent issues concerning students welfare which included the victimization of students in the University of Ibadan.

Honourables from various Halls of Residence ,Hall Chairpersons and Presidents of one body or the other raised the serious issues of which Students' Disciplinary Committee (SDC) letters and single treasury account cases were the main points.

While addressing the issue of the assistant Hall warden being the principal signatory to the respective hall accounts,  One of the concerned stakeholders who is the Vice President of the Union, Miss Aderoju said emphatically that the turn ups of various hall chairpersons has been very discouraging and disheartening.

Temmy Gista, A stakeholder from Tedder Hall, who also happens to be a member of the literary and debating society of the hall as well as the General Secretary of the same hall, gave a practical and tactical example of how a case like this was thrashed out in Tedder Hall when something similar to this happened not too long ago. He buttressed his point by saying that a congress was called for and the members of the hall rejected the proposal of the hall management in making the assistant hall warden a principal signatory to the hall's account.

Furthermore, during the course of this meeting victimization of students was also discussed. A more recent case is that of Mr Kunle Adebajo and the Students' Union House Secretary, Mr Osasona that were served SDC letters respectively.

Aside that, some of the stakeholders that spoke were the likes of Tedder Hall Chairman who spoke with all zeal and passion, Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Chairman spoke as well, proposing a congress as a solution and Mr. Tokunbo Salako, a former Students' Union (SU) President who gave strategies on how the Union can possibly tackle the problem on ground.

Towards the end of the meeting, Yemi Progress "Chief Cauna" a progressive member of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall (Zikite) spoke in Latin and Greek of which brought about laughter among the participants/attendees (I wonder if anybody was able to understand a word from what he said)

Some part of the stakeholders resolved into holding a congress while others suggested the use of social media as a form of protest through which different hashtags concerning students' victimization could trend on social media hereby calling the attention of the public. (although, a few stakeholders couldn't buy into this idea).

In conclusion, at the climax of the meeting, resolutions were made, and will be made public by the General Secretary, Mr Oluwafemi.
