Just yesterday, it seemed the entire campus community had discovered one common enemy as maintenance girls gathered around in clusters, sharing their opinions and experiences with this so called perceived swindler. Below is an account of what ensued between popular social media personality, Mr FattKay and campus clothing line Fortress clothing.
"Disappointment hurts more than pain, they say, but I’ve learnt not to blame people for disappointing me, instead, I blame myself for expecting too much from them. As I believe that sometimes not getting what you want, can be the best thing for you.
We’re not here to bore you with some sugarcoated juxtaposition of vowels and consonants, plus we’re not here to mince words in order to favour our sided horizon, I just want to put into writing, our bitter sweet experience with an OAU fashion designer (@Fortress_Clothing). On the off chance that you care to know, I am @Fattbabakay (Fattkay.com), and coupled with me on this literary journey is my partner,@Iam_Dockthor.(Tweak.com.ng).
The story is pretty long and super indeed, so you might need to get a bottle of coke to wash it down.
Affixed to a seat in a solemn enclosure on a hectic Friday noon (3rd of June, 2016), somewhere in the heart of Warri city, it was a meeting with the board of directors (@OnlineMercenaries – Onlinemercenaries.com – A Digital Marketing Brand), we were deliberating on getting some customized wears for the brand. So many recommendations came up, but as a patriotic Great Ife student, we decided to give it to an OAU fashion brand (Fortress_Clothings) based on recommendation by my colleague @Iam_Dockthor. Here is a snippet of our discussion, prior to the decision.
Immediately, we pulled a call across to him, making clear our intentions. We later added him to our Whatsapp group where we finalized the deal after a couple of No’s and Yes’s as expected when it comes to financial agreement in business bargains. The order was caps, shirts and sweat shirts. We asked when he could start and when he could deliver and he said “I will start when I get FULL payment and I willdeliver in 2weeks“, he said, like somehow it was so sure for.
There wasn’t much purchasing power as at that time, it was a weekend, so we sent him half payment immediately, that same day, not for him to start work but for him to know we were serious and we were not one of those “we shall get back to you” clients that will end up not showing up till like forever. After 4days, we wired him the balance. More often than not, he would have smiled at the credit alert and licked lips. Nevertheless, as expected, he was to start immediately.
He requested for the logo to be inscribed on the shirts, we told him to get started with the shirts first, as we got across to a graphics designer to get something done concerning the logo. After a week, which of course he should be done with the shirts, we sent him the logo, we expected delivery within the next week, we went solo.
Days after, @Iam_Dockthor came across an hoodie on another fashion designer’s IG page, Can’t recall the handle, he showed me.
We went back to the whatsapp group and enquired, here is a snippet of the chat :
Long story short, we ordered for four hoodies and agreed on 4k each, we paid @Mr_Fortress the next Monday.
@Emgrafix did the picture art, very fast and cool within hours. We forwarded it to @Mr_Fortress and started expecting delivery, once again, we went solo.
Days went pass, no words. We didn’t disturb him.
After two weeks, no delivery, it’s allowed, maybe a little wait might be worth it. Here is the chat I had with my partner @Iam_Dockthor

June flew, still no delivery.
July came through, we started pursuing him again.
Then he promised delivery in two days, after two days, still no sign.
Long story short, he later came around after a while, somewhere around early July and called us, thinking he would come with everything we ordered for, he came with only the hoodies which as at that time, was of less importance. We asked him about the rest and he promised delivery the very next day.
Now the next day…
The hoodies he delivered were far below standard, different from the picture we sent him, more like a joking stuff. The material was poor and the sewing was nothing to be proud about. We silently went ahead and bought a ready made hoodie from Konga, then we made the same printing on it, no noise made, we didn’t even tell him, it was all cool.
Now since then, we are waiting for the next day, he called on 18th Of July and promised to deliver that Saturday, but it was all lies.
We needed a way to at least get him to say something, so @Iam_Dockthor who is social media concentrated, suggested that we took to Twitter, I jumped on my twitter page, smart twitter asked about my current status and I tweeted it! Trust my loyal twitter followers, they got me some 60+ fat retweets in a couple of minutes. Then, the issue was already going more far than I thought, but at least, I needed to wait for him to talk.
After a couple of hours, the tweet must have reached @Mr_Fortress, he couldn’t call to at least settle issue with us, he took to my IG page and here is what he said :
At this stage, I knew something was wrong somewhere, you knew you were wrong and all you could do was post some grammar you probably copied on google, on my page?? It is well o.
Subsequent to this, here are what some other previous clients of @Mr_Fortress said :
But where were all these peeps with bad testimonies when I wanted to press that send button on my access bank mobile app?? Ehn, where??
Meanwhile, as at this period, he was right on BBM, changing DP like Jenifa.
Due to his nonchalant exhibition, we decided to intensify the social media heat, and as social media promoters, it would have been as easy as eating bread and fried egg, that kind of publicity that can make a non-talented upcoming artist blow up in a day. I had another tweet chat with my partner :
Those who were concerned saw this, then after series of calls pulled across from probably his friends and peace makers, we stopped and deleted all previous posts.
Still same day, while I was busy laughing out loud at some @twyse_116 IG skits, I got a call from a strange number which disrupted my sweet airtel network, the conversation goes thus :
I, already feeling weird and confused with wonders, looked at my partner who already got a clue and we both laughed it off.
Just a few minutes to 2pm, the stated time, we hit the road, we arrived at the police station on a rickety Bajaj bike, we really didn’t know where to head as we’ve never been there for whatever reason. We decided to pull a call across to supposed Officer that called earlier.
Maybe officer went to have a nice time or went to settle a criminal case at the guest house, who cares, I’ve never heard of someone meeting a police officer in a guest house though, not even in nollywood movies. Ish, we took a straight bike back to campus.
Thenwe waited all day for @Mr_Fortress to call, still nothing… Then later in the day, my partner and I had another tweet chat…
After this, we went solo…………….
We were busy all night trying to get some things done before morning, in order to meet up with a client’s appointment. “Let’s do this stuff overnight so our matter won’t be like that of @Mr_Fortress“, we jokingly said.
Around 6am, while I was still trying to hold back the sleep, I got another call from an unknown number.
“Dude, a supposed inspector called, told us to come again this morning, you just continue with the work, let me get some sharp sleep so I can go there this morning”, I said.
As soon as 10am, I was again, at the station, asked around for the DPO’s office and the man that answered said I couldn’t see the DPO, told me to go to the counter and directed me.
On getting there, I was lucky to have met the DPO there.
*I gave him and he said he didn’t have the number saved on his phone, he told me told call the number. I did and told supposed inspector I was at the counter, he hung up.*
Fattbabakay : He hung up sir
DPO : Really?
DPO seemed too busy with the case of another criminal who obviously had already got the beating of his life, maybe he stole fowl, I dont know, he didn’t have much time to attend to me. “This sounds like the right time to just explain the whole situation to the DPO myself so he can take it up sef”, I said to myself, “But why? Why would I involve police to arrest my fellow Ife blood on a matter that revolves around an amount that is not even up to 6 figures”, I took back my words. While still trying to figure out what to do, I got a call from @Iam_Dockthor who reminded me we needed to be with someone within 30minutes. I left the station immediately.
Till now, whether Officer and Inspector exist or not, is inconclusive, whether the Police is being faked just to get us not to intensify the campaign, we can’t tell, maybe, maybe not. Maybe @Mr_Fortress has done the job or has used the money to carry some maintenance girls, I can’t say.
But it’s all good, either ways.
Even though we can go miles with this matter, all digital, no stress for us at all, we just make his name popular in a bad way, it’s what we do everyday.
But I guess there are better things to do with time.
But at this juncture, the matter is already getting too stupid and mentally stressful. We decided to just leave the matter to rest.
Now, here is the bottom line, every point we made about @Fortress_Clothing is solely ours, his delivery was wack in quality and punctuality, he is nonchalant and doesn’t understand the statement “Customers are always right“. Therefore, for us, he’s not worth dealing with. It doesn’t mean if you try him it will be same, maybe you should just try it ehn, just try it, I said try it!!!
But on a serious note, if you would ask us, we would tell you to just stay off his brand and get your stuff done elsewhere. It’s an honest review, it’s an humble advice, it’s a friendly warning and it’s the bitter truth.
Meanwhile @Mr_Fortress can chop the money, a good way for him to bypass some financial worries.
