The Nigeria University Games Association has suspended Obafemi Awolowo University from hosting NUGA Games. This was made known to the public by the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities(SSANU),OAU chapter, Comrade Ademola Oketunde, during the press conference organized by the Association of Campus Journalist, OAU Chapter at the University Senate building.
He related that the suspension was due to the misappropriation of funds in the 2014 NUGA games hosted by the University's previous administration led by the then Vice Chancellor, Professor Bamitale Omole.
Some say the school administration under Professor Bamitale Omole claimed to have spent 500million Naira for the construction of the swimming pool used for the NUGA and that he appropriated N2.5billion for the building of 4 hostels while only one hostel in MMPGH is still being built.
