The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non Academic Staff Union at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has warned the school management against acting on its plan to impose a Vice Chancellor of their choosing for the institution.
Chairman of SSANU in the university, Mr. Ademola Oketunde, said the association would not allow any candidate to be imposed on the university through the back door.
He said the university would witness a great change if the next vice-chancellor could be picked from outside the “current management caucus.”
Oketunde said, “We want integrity in the selection process of the next vice-chancellor of OAU. We have suffered a lot in the hands of these perpetrators called administrators in our university.
“For the past 15 years, workers in OAU have been in bondage. It is no longer bearable and we cannot afford to undergo another round of this ill treatment in the hands of this group.
NASU chairman alleged that the university management is working towards imposing a candidate because it probably has something to hide.
But the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, described the allegation by the two unions as baseless.
