Steven Gerrard made an emotional return to Anfield on Sunday - but his presence in the stands could not inspire his former team-mates as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace.
LA Galaxy star Gerrard played for the Reds for almost 17 years after graduating from the club's academy and making his debut in November 1998 before departing at the end of last season.
His new adventure in Major League Soccer ended prematurely with a play-off defeat last month and Gerrard is now back on Merseyside as a fan in the US off-season.
But things didn't quite go the former Liverpool captain's way. While he was all smiles in the stands, sitting alongside injured midfielder Jordan Henderson, Scott Dann netted a late winner to condemn his former colleagues to defeat.
Gerrard flew from Los Angeles to Heathrow airport last Wednesday as he begins a break following The former England captain has admitted that next year's campaign could be his last as a player, with his contract set to expire at the end of the 2016 season.
