Buhari advices graduands at UniAbuja Convocation


President Muhammadu Buhari urged UniAbuja graduands to use skills for national development. He said this at the 23rd convocation ceremony of the institution in Abuja.

Buhari, who was represented by Mr Sunday Echonu, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, said that the Federal Government was committed to addressing youth unemployment. He added that, the present administration would not rest until youth unemployment was reduced to the barest minimum, and advised the youth to embrace measures aimed at curbing unemployment in the country.

He also said that his administration would continue to improve on infrastructure in the universities, promote teachers development and address deficiency in the educational system.

ASUU Strike: LASU urges students to disregard resumption notice



The Lagos State University (LASU) has urged its students to disregard any notice directing them to resume for lectures amidst the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Spokesman of the university, Mr Ademola Adekoya told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the information was a lie and handwork of mischief makers.

NAN reports that a notice had gone viral on the social media recently directing all students of the university to resume for academic activities.

The notice had claimed that the management of the university at its meeting, said all students be notified of the commencement of academic activities including course registration and lectures.

UNILAG TV to begin Thursday, January 17



The University of Lagos television station will from Jan. 17, broadcast local, national and international news as events unfold.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, gave the assurance at a news conference to launch the University of Lagos Television Station (UNILAG TV) and unveiling of its logo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the university was issued television operational licence on Nov. 9, 2017, by the Federal Government.

According to Ogundipe, since the university pioneered campus radio broadcasting on Dec. 14, 2004, it has been dreaming of a campus television station.

4 New Universities approved by the Federal Government



The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday in Abuja approved the establishment of four new private universities in Kaduna, Oyo, Ogun and Osun states.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, confirmed this when he briefed State House correspondents at the end of the first meeting of the council in 2019. According to the minister, the new universities are Greenfield University Kaduna, Dominion University, Ibadan, Trinity University, Laloko in Ogun and Westland University in Iwo, Osun.

Jigawa Govt. recruits 770 teachers



The Jigawa State Universal Education Board, disclosed this in a statement through its spokesman, Alhaji Wasilu Umar, in Dutse on Wednesday.
Umar said that SUBEB Chairman in the state, Alhaji Salisu Zakar, noted that the gesture was part of state government’s commitment towards providing qualified education.

He assured of continued government support to reform the educational sector in the state.

“The present administration has so far recruited about 2,000 teachers at basic levels.

“The chairman, therefore called on the new teachers to reciprocate the gesture through dedication to their duties in order to achieve the desired goals,” Umar said.
